Mushrooms of Evolution
Divergent and convergent pathways along the interplay of hope and despair intertwine in a complex dance of alternating currents and oscillating perception…
As we listen to Juan Enriquez talk about Homo Evolutis, we can happily look past the current “flames” engulfing our world, but to what end? …to a bright new future for the species, the new species of hominids atop the pyramid? Oops, is this the Illuminati dream of dreams? Sounds great, doesn’t it?
But let’s think for a minute about human evolution, and civilization, and we quickly see that misery and suffering are still with us despite all the glorious discoveries and euphoric achievements. Where are the grand solutions and absolution that science and religion and politics have repeatedly promised us over and over again?
So no! Science is NOT the answer! And technology is only a distraction from the truth — what truth? Nor is religion the answer. This world is certainly not designed around man and his arrogance… And most certainly the answer is not in politicians and the puppets and grand masters behind the scenes.
Maybe we should listen to Paul Stamets and his adulation and love for mycelium – don’t glaze over – but he’s onto something I suppose.
Mushrooms will save the world, *grin* only not as Paul would assume with his softball optimism.
Perhaps Terence McKenna is closer to the answer with his Timewave Zero theory and mushroom-induced voyages on the slopes of a volcano?
In the small hours before morning breaks, when we can hear the immense breath of being, where is our respite as shards of contradiction and failure lacerate this perpetually broken world? What comforts us when it dawns on us that the reign of man is not infinite after all?
…And yet, and yet…to embrace a child and see the world, profoundly see the world in his eyes, or to extend an act of kindness toward an aging dog and appreciate the meaning in his glance, or to lift a struggling insect from the edge of a cup and understand its plight, are simple gestures all, yet each act crushes the entire construed world and reveals the essence of our being, the potential of our timeless radiance that transcends this bracketed world and its fickle ambitions of mortal flesh.
The answer is not in prolongation of earth-bound life, nor is it in mastering this world of folly, but in igniting the self to radiate – that is our destined evolution, and it does not require science nor priests nor rulers.
The answer is in us, in our DNA, in our matrix, latent and poised to be ignited. Nowhere is Now and Here, thus Time and Space are but mere perception of our holographic projected world. Liberated of the constraints of the flux, we are free to become stars, transform, and evolve at once.
Indeed, mushrooms can save the world as they enable us to better perceive the soul of a Scarab rolling dung.

Hey Alex,
interesting juxtaposition to say the least. I have a book on Terence McKenna for you!
I notice that the video on Juan Enriquez has that freaking pyramid in it toward the end — strange hint.
Also, check out the Watchman graphic novel — I have an old copy, but I know you want to have your own so amazon it.
